Maserati and Architectural Digest had teamed up to ask Where does the garage fit in the design world? and launched a search to find the world’s finest architectural garages. Holger Schubert of Los Angeles, winner for excellence in an existing garage design, thinks his car is a piece of art and should be showcased as such. On the upper floor of his 1953 ranch home, a minimalist 1200 square foot gallery-style loft is the perfect spot to appreciate a Maserati. This mini-apartment is equipped with flat-panel slide away TV, kitchenette, bathroom, lounge area and bookshelf: the dream garage for any swinging bachelor who’s got a car nice enough to show off (your 1996 Geo Metro will look better in this space, but not that much better). Forget the fact that the entire building was built using sustainable products, by far the coolest feature is the steel ramp, set into concrete, which elevates at the touch of a button to allow your car to roll out of your living space – letting you start it outdoors. With details like this, it is no wonder Maserati fell in love with it. See a video of Schubert explaining his space after the jump.
